Best Day Spa Pregnancy Treatments

Pregnancy can be a joyous, spiritual time for women, but it often creates stress too, both physical and mental. The body is stretched in many ways as it adapts to grow a baby and carry the extra weight. While mental stress may be increased by fear of the unknown, the responsibilities of motherhood and more often the stress of work on top of trying to be as healthy as possible for your babies growth and development during pregnancy, it’s a lot to manage.

Recommendations for Spa Treatments During Pregnancy

While a trip to a Day Spa is the ultimate way to relax and rejuvenate at any time, when it’s a Mum-to-be there’s a need to be treated carefully. Therapists should be trained to provide pregnancy treatments and understand what treatments and products are safe to be used during pregnancy. At ikatan Day Spa, Noosa our staff are trained in pregnancy treatments and while we know women’s bodies are designed to carry and grow a baby, we like to help balance the added stress and pressures of life by relaxing the mum-to-be, as a relaxed Mumma is best for Bubba.

Pregnancy Checklist For Visiting a Day Spa
  • Safety – Understanding what treatments are best during pregnancy. It’s important to know that treatments with certain spices, essential oils and hot rocks, must never be used.
  • Trained staff – Trained and experienced staff in pregnancy treatments need to have an understanding of the common concerns experienced during pregnancy.
  • Comfort – Which is the key to all good spa treatments especially during pregnancy. At ikatan Spa we have wide spa treatment beds that can be contoured for support. During pregnancy our guests are in a side-lying position during pregnancy massage and some treatments, as it replicates the sleeping position during pregnancy and is therefore very relaxing.  We like to use pillows during a pregnancy treatment, similar to the way women often use at home, between the legs, for a comfortable sleep and support when pregnant, as well as a rolled towel to cuddle, just like a baby.
  • Using a bed that has a cut out for a baby bump is not always as comfortable as it sounds, just like a one size fits all, we find they never do and a ‘pregnancy’ bed can be unsuitable for taller or smaller women, it seems that no two baby bumps fit the same measurements, head or baby bump cut-out in a bed, which is why we prefer a side-laying position.
  • Nurturing – Because a mum-to-be needs to be cared for in a different way when pregnant, select treatments that are relaxing and nurturing as the best choices during pregnancy. Keeping Mum calm is best for the baby.
  • Time to enjoy – We recommend to extend relaxation time during pregnancy by booking a 75 or 90 minute massage or a package with a combination of treatments. This will give the therapist time to focus on areas of concern and allow time for slower, deep relaxation.

While we offer a dedicated pregnancy massage at ikatan, we also recommend a variety of treatments, specials and packages that are suitable pregnancy spa treatments,  including some which can be enjoyed with a partner, friend or family. Baby Showers are also a popular event at ikatan Spa.

Most popular pregnancy treatments

All treatments and packages at ikatan Spa start with a personal consultation about clients’ needs. All ikatan Spa staff are pregnancy trained therapists.

We use warm organic coconut oil for pregnancy massage because it’s totally safe and blissfully relaxing and helps nourish the skin, thus minimising stretch marks. For clients with a nut allergy, we use rice bran oil  as a safe, soothing alternative.

1. Bali Getaway Package – This three-hour package allows plenty of time for mums-to-be to relax with a 60-minute pregnancy massage, a 60-minute facial and a deluxe pedicure – perfect when the bump gets so big that touching your toes is a challenge! All treatments can be upgraded to a longer treatment at minimal cost.

2. 90-minute Pregnancy Massage

A 90-minute massage gives the mum-to-be time to relax and the therapist ample time to cater for clients’ needs. During pregnancy, there’s a lot of tension around the hips, thighs, back and upper shoulders due to postural changes. It takes time to alleviate tension in these areas, therefore a 90-minute massage gives improved results and offers better value.

Once settled on our wide spa bed, with extra pillows for support and comfort, many pregnant women relax so much they fall asleep during this massage – it’s perfectly normal and therapists get a sense of satisfaction from being able to induce such deep relaxation. Don’t worry if you need to move, re-position your body or have the head end of bed lifted during treatments, it’s what our therapists are trained to do and work through your comfort and needs.

3. Serenity Package or Prasanna Package

This package is popular with pregnant women who’d prefer a seated massage, focusing on feet, lower legs, head, neck and upper shoulders, rather than a full body massage.

Offered in one of our garden rooms, this package works equally well for someone who needs time out, or for women who want to enjoy the experience with a partner, relative or with a group of friends for a baby shower experience. Many women like to spend longer relaxing in the tropical gardens and order high tea or a platter during the treatment and we don’t blame them!

4. ikatan Escape

This two-hour ikatan Escape Package combines a 75-minute relaxing Pregnancy Massage followed by a personalised 45-minute facial and complimentary Inika organic, vegan makeup application.

This combination ensures our guest leaves feeling relaxed and with a visible glow. It’s ideal if you’re suffering from hormonal break out during pregnancy. You can also upgrade to increase the length of your massage or facial with any package.

5. Retreat Day – A popular Baby Moon Experience.

Pregnant women deserve and need some me-time before the baby arrives and an ikatan Spa Day Retreat is the perfect babymoon hideaway. The retreat day allows our guests to spend eight hours at the spa with a personalised day, created to suit just what you  needs during pregnancy.

Ikatan Day Retreat can include treatments of choice or treatments created personally for the clients’ needs, as well as personalised, private yoga and/or mediation with experienced teachers. It also includes breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea at ikatan, with all dietary requirements catered for along with choice of beverage, including non-alcoholic champagne. Day Retreats are popular for babymoons with partners, besties or family to make the most of quiet time before a little bundle or joy arrives.

No matter what treatment are chosen, we encourage all our guests to relax in the gardens with a complimentary glass of champagne, non-alcoholic sparkling or a pot of T2 tea before or after their treatment. There’s also a wine list and boutique beer menu on offer.
